Glossary

Accepted — An incorporation or filing that has been processed and approved by Companies House. Corresponds to status 200 in the incorporation statuses.

Brand — The account-level entity that rate limits are applied against. A single Brand may have multiple API keys. See Rate limiting.

Companies House — The United Kingdom’s registrar of companies. eFiling routes company filings through Companies House on behalf of customers.

Filing — A formal submission to Companies House (e.g. an incorporation, a change of registered office, an officer appointment).

Holder — An officer role. Depending on the company type, “holder” resolves to either shareholder (company limited by shares) or guarantor (company limited by guarantee). See Officers.

MLC status — Money laundering check status on an order or incorporation.

Nature of control — A set of attributes declared for a Person with Significant Control (PSC) indicating their specific control over the company (e.g. voting rights, right to appoint directors, ownership of shares).

Order — A purchase of products or services on eFiling. See Orders.

Orderline — An individual line item on an Order.

PSC — Person with Significant Control. A Companies House concept for individuals or entities that exercise meaningful control over a company.

Registered office — The official address of a company, as recorded at Companies House.

Rejected — An incorporation or filing that has been rejected by Companies House. Corresponds to status 160.

Service — An ongoing subscription attached to an incorporation or officer, e.g. a registered office service or mail forwarding. See Services & Service Items.

Service address — The address at which an officer agrees to receive statutory correspondence.

Service item — An individual action or charge inside a Service.

Topdog — An officer role. Depending on the company type, “topdog” resolves to either director (company limited by shares) or member (company limited by guarantee). See Officers.
